This line charts shows the prevalence of selected malformations by birth year. The Congenital Malformations Registry (CMR) of the New York State Department of Health is a repository for case reports on children who are born or reside in New York State and are diagnosed before the age of two years with any structural, functional or biochemical abnormality determined genetically or induced during gestation and not due to birthing events. The default view of the chart shows the prevalence of Spina Bifida among males and females by birth year. To view a different malformation, select the malformation under the "Filter" tab. To view the prevalence for a specific sex, race/ethnicity, or residence change those options under the "Filter" tab. For more information, check out: http://www.health.ny.gov/diseases/congenital_malformations/cmrhome.htm. The "About" tab contains additional details concerning this dataset.

This dataset contains data on the occurrence of selected major malformations in infants born 1992 and forward. The Congenital Malformations Registry (CMR) of the New York State Department of Health is a repository for case reports on children who are born or reside in New York State and are diagnosed before the age of two years with any structural, functional or biochemical abnormality determined genetically or induced during gestation and not due to birthing events. This is based on reporting from hospitals, which is required under the State Sanitary Code. Hospitals report a narrative description of the birth defect which is reviewed and coded by CMR staff.
