The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) is an annual statewide telephone surveillance system designed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). BRFSS monitors modifiable risk behaviors and other factors contributing to the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the population. New York State's BRFSS sample represents the adult population living in private residences or college housing who have either a landline or cellular telephone, aged 18 years and older. Adults living in group homes or congregate settings are excluded from the survey. Although the overall number of respondents in the BRFSS is more than sufficiently large for statistical inference purposes, subgroup analyses can lead to estimates that are unreliable. Interpreting and reporting weighted numbers that are based on a small, unweighted number of respondents can mislead the reader into believing that a given finding is much more precise than it actually is. The BRFSS follows a rule of not reporting or interpreting percentages based upon a denominator of fewer than 50 respondents (unweighted sample). Both a csv and sas data files are available. For more information see: http://www.health.ny.gov/statistics/brfss/

This dataset contains Potentially Avoidable Antibiotic Prescribing observed and risk-adjusted rates for adult Medicaid enrollees by provider county beginning in 2010.
Potentially Avoidable Antibiotic Prescriptions are antibiotic prescriptions filled for the treatment of acute respiratory infections for which antibiotics are not indicated, contributing to bacterial drug resistance. Index visits for acute respiratory infections and corresponding prescription fills were identified through the use of previously published methods.
The rates were calculated using Medicaid outpatient claims and encounters, and prescription drug data.
The observed and risk adjusted rates are presented by provider county (including a statewide total).

Note: This dataset is no longer updated. This dataset includes cumulative and weekly counts of the number of new COVID-19 cases reported, number of cases reached, percent cases reached, total contacts elicited, total elicited contacts reached, and percent contacts reached by each week. Please note: In the earlier days of the program, the number of cases represented the numbers reported by selected LHDs. Therefore, the volume could be much lower than all new COVID cases.

This dataset includes Medicaid Managed Care, Commercial HMO, and Commercial PPO performance data from the Quality Assurance Reporting Requirements (QARR) by member demographic characteristics. QARR is largely based on measures of quality developed and published by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS®). Plans are required to submit quality performance data each year. Demographic information analyzed in this report includes members’ sex, age, race/ethnicity, Medicaid aid category, cash assistance status, behavioral health conditions including serious mental illness (SMI) and substance use disorder (SUD), payer status, and region of residence. Measuring the quality of care, and the ability to measure disparities in care is an important first step to a better understanding of the underlying factors that drive differences in care among certain populations within Medicaid Managed Care, Commercial HMO, and Commercial PPO.
These data are published annually for Medicaid Managed Care in the Health Care Disparities in New York State Report and on the NYSDOH website: http://www.health.ny.gov/health_care/managed_care/reports/
